From this region we could recommend Enate Merlot-Merlot, Reserva 1999. Outstand in this wine the marked notes of high roast, consequence of its vintage in new French oak very roasted. Some notes of mature fruit or even crystallized, are also present. In the mouth it shows its power, without losing its elegance gained by its noble tannins very well melted.
The fourth region we will mention is that of the Catalonian wines of the Priorat. This wines are nowadays very popular, both national and internationally speaking, even for those who have not taste them yet, because they have created a great image of excellence that makes the consumer to spend the high prices that characterize them. This great wine quality has been recognized officially by the approbation of the status of D.O.C by the government of Spain (only hold by La Rioja) what is a proof of the importance achieved.
They are characterized by their dark crimson color, by their dry and mature fruits smells. Of a dense, rich and velvet taste, they are structured, warm, powerful, of high graduation, strong in sourness and markedly tannic.
Clos Mogador Reserva 2004 could be a good example. It has a dark crimson cherry color. Its smell is powerful and delicate at the same time, with notes of liquorice and pepper. When the wine is shaken its smells are widened: smells of fruit (plum and crystallized fruits), toasted (wood), mineral notes (of the slate that characterized the ground of the region) and balsamic and spiced notes (mint, undergrowth). In the mouth it is fantastic, with great body, profundity, power and elegance at the same time. It has a great balance between sourness and tannins.
The fifth and last region to mention is D.O. Toro. Wines of this Castilian Leon region are the last sensation among the wines in our country. The protagonist vine is the fabulous tinta de toro (close friend of the tempranillo grape), from which especially dense wines, with great body and strong red color with a high alcoholic graduation were elaborated. Nowadays, however, the wines produced are more adapted to the present market demands, softened a lot of times with the coupages or garnacha. The results are wines of a good tannic expression and beautiful body, with an adequate sourness level that gives them a good guarantee of ageing.
We recommend from this region the vintage red wine Pintia 2003. It is a wine of cherry color. Good intensity in the smell, with balance between toasted wood that appears on the first place and mature fruit that appears secondly, together with scents of leather, cacao and a touch of flowers. In the taste a good structure s appreciated, balance in the sourness , widening of flavors, good fruit expression and a persistent end.
